How to choose a
language course.

Define whether you need everyday fluency, an examination, academic entry, professional communication or cultural immersion. A prestigious school is not automatically the best fit for a specific outcome.

Look beyond labels such as ‘intensive’. Compare teaching hours per week, supervised practice, self-study expectations, course length and the number of weeks needed for your target level.

In-person study may add immersion and local context; online study can provide schedule flexibility and lower travel cost. Hybrid formats are useful only when both components are clearly explained.

Add registration, materials, examination, accommodation, transport, visa, insurance and living costs to tuition. Confirm the currency, tax treatment, refund terms and payment schedule directly.

Ask how the provider assesses your starting level, maps progress to CEFR or another relevant framework, and determines readiness for an examination or higher-level class.

Confirm accreditation, examination-centre status, university progression and visa-document support with the relevant official organisation. Preparation-provider and official-test-centre status are not the same.

Review minimum age, class size, timetable, attendance rules, cancellation, deferral, accommodation conditions and what happens when a class does not reach minimum enrolment.
